Venice - 25th May 2006
Venice is awesomeWe reached early in the morning & waited for the guy in charge of the hostel to bring us there. The place is run by this china guy & its only €20 for a night on the main island! Tats considered cheap cause its on the main island, and makes things a lot more accessible. Anyway, it may not be a great hostel, but the 'service' is good. We reached and he asked us whether we had breakfast or not and gave us a bit of breakfast! Porridge, chao cai, got kim chi also.. tat sort of thing. It may not be great, but considering we haven't had a proper meal for quite a while, it was quite satisfying. =)
And there was a computer with internet connection there! and we keep hogging the computer.. haha..
So the first destination we went was St Marco. The place was like.. 'wow!' I dunno how to describe it.. just.. 'WOW' makes Milan & Frankfurt seem so much smaller n insignificant. The place is just so nice & pretty. Everyone is dining outside... millions & millions & millions of pigeons. Ppl drinking wine. Bands playing classical music in the open air. It's nice. We walked n walked, taking in the sights n sounds. Gorgeous.. Just plain gorgeous.
St Marco! One thing noticed also is that there are no cars on the main island. No cars at all. Because the streets are too narrow. Just enough for maybe 3, 4 ppl to walk side by side. Everyone travelled by boats. It's so cool. The roads are the little rivers running along the side of the streets. Way awesome. We went to buy Gelato again (think i got some creme Venezuella flavoured) and sat down watching the boats go by. A 'construction' boat parked at the place we're sitting, & one guy asked if we're from Japan n offered us sweets... So nice right.. haha.. Oh, did i mention that europeans can't differentiate us. They dunno whether we're Korean, or China, or Japan.. etc etc.. Just like how I can't differentiate whether they're french, german, swedish, finnish, etc etc.. haha
We went to the famous Rialto bridge after that. (Ponte di Rialto). I don't really know why it's so famous. But, here's a little website on it: Ponte di Rialto
Now i shall talk a bit about the famous Gondolas. Boy are they pretty!! and expensive to sit on.. i think it's €100 for a ride. But they're just so romantic & nice with all the pretty gold trimmings on the boat, and the velvety seats (some in the shape of a heart) And i think if you pay more, you get a guy singing opera songs with an accordian accompaniment which further increases the romantic level by like 2 fold!! Its so so cute & romantic. Makes you fall in love with the whole city instantly.

Well we went back after that & met this girl from China called Xiao Yen who's travelling around Italy only for around 3 or 4 weeks all by herself.. Cool huh. And we started talking to her. Then at night we went out with her, we took the water bus. Bus number 1 i believe, which goes thru the main canal, and looked at the night scene. Which was once again breathtakingly awesome! To see the streets all lit up, it's just way cool. We went to this Neon waterfall which was right at the end & took a picture.

Then.. well.. that was pretty much it for the day. Took the water bus back & went to sleep.
